| This paper looks at the ironic existence of U.S. National Parks. Its main thesis is that from coast to coast, park management has always been faced with the challenge of balancing two sometimes-conflicting goals: to provide amenities visitors want and to preserve the priceless natural wonders they come to see. But those who come to visit these areas introduce destructive elements to fragile environments, human interference that may leave permanent, irreparable scars in our treasured wilderness.
